Problem 2
Exterior plywood is made with waterproof gle and higher-grade veneer than interior plywood.
Problem 3
Roof trusses should be stored on-site placed on blocking (@10') on a level surface and covered. They should be braced when stored vertically so they don't fall over.
Problem 4
Collar beams are used to make the roof ridge more rigid so it can better resist wind loads.
Problem 5
Besides the normal hazards associated with working two stories up, roof trusses can be cumbersome and unwieldy when lifted, in large part due to their relatively low weight and largish size. They can be blown around and hit people on the head, and once placed, can easily be knocked down until they are properly fixed and braced in place.
Problem 6
Fire-retardant-treated wood (FRTW) is resistant to fire, as the name implies. Use of it may decrease costs by decreasing insurance and fire protection costs, and it is more resistant to termites and decay than conventional lumber is.
Problem 7
Without a design analysis of the joist, do not make notches in the top or bottom greater than 1/6 the depth of the joist and keep them in the middle third of the length. Do not bore holes greater than 1/3 the joist depth and do not bore them within 2” of the top or bottom of the joist.
Problem 8
- Laminated veneer lumber is like plywood with all the plies parallel to the length and from it lumber is cut.
- Wood I beams are _laminated vaneer lumber flanges bonded to OSB and are used for light, strong beams.
- Particleboard is little more than glued wood chips and is used for many things where the strength of plywood is not needed.
Problem 9
A thickened-edge slab is made by pouring foundations beams integrally with the floor slab directly onto a vapor barrier laid on the prepared compacted-gravel surface. It is constructed using standard cast-in-place concrete methods.
